Sunan Abi Dawud 2510 (Book 15, Hadith 34) #22801
Staying Home for Jihad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged those who stayed at home to look after the family and property of warriors, and promised them half the reward of those who went out for jihad.

Abu Sa’id Al Khudri said "The Apostle of Allaah sent an expedition towards Banu Lihyan and said "One of the two persons should go forth. He then said to those who sat (at home), If any one of you looks after the family and property of a warrior, he will receive half the reward of the one who goes forth (in jihad)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Helping others achieve their goals, being generous with time and resources when helping others achieve their goals.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad PBUH encouraged people to go out on expeditions or journeys in order to fight in the name of Allah. He also recognized that not everyone could go on these expeditions, so he promised a reward to those who stayed behind and looked after the families and properties of warriors. This hadith teaches us that even if we are unable to physically participate in jihad, we can still receive rewards from Allah by helping others do it. It also encourages us to be generous with our time and resources when helping others achieve their goals.
