The Prophet's Monthly Fasting Routine

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad used to fast three days every month on Monday, Thursday and the following Monday.

Narrated Hafsah, Ummul Mu'minin: The apostle of Allah used to fast three days every month: Monday, Thursday and Monday in the next week.
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ، عَنْ سَوَاءٍ الْخُزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَصُومُ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسِ وَالاِثْنَيْنِ مِنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الأُخْرَى

EXPLANATIONS:
According to the hadith narrated by Hafsah, Ummul Mu'minin, the Prophet Muhammad used to fast three days every month. These days were Monday, Thursday and the following Monday. This was a routine that he followed regularly in order to gain closeness with Allah and increase his spiritual strength. It is a reminder for us of how important it is for us to take time out of our busy lives in order to focus on our faith and spirituality. We should strive to follow this example set by the Prophet Muhammad in order to become closer with Allah and increase our spiritual strength as well.
