Eating & Drinking in Forgetfulness While Fasting

SUMMARY: A man came to the Prophet and confessed that he had eaten and drank while fasting, to which the Prophet replied that Allah had already fed him and given him drink.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: A man came to the Prophet and said: Messenger of Allah, I ate and drank in forgetfulness when I was fasting. Hie said: Allah had fed you and given you drink.
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، وَحَبِيبٌ، وَهِشَامٌ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَكَلْتُ وَشَرِبْتُ نَاسِيًا وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ أَطْعَمَكَ اللَّهُ وَسَقَاكَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man who came to the Prophet confessing that he ate and drank while fasting. The Prophet's response was one of mercy, as he said "Allah had fed you and given you drink". This teaches us that even if we make mistakes, Allah is always merciful towards us. We should not be too hard on ourselves when we make mistakes but instead seek forgiveness from Allah for our wrongdoings. Additionally, this hadith also teaches us about the importance of being mindful of our actions at all times so as not to forget any obligations or duties we have towards Allah.
