The Holiness of Ramadan and Dhu al-Hijjah

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that the two months of 'Id (festival), Ramadan and Dhu al-Hijjah, are not defective.

Narrated Abu Bakrah: The Prophet as saying: The two months of 'Id (festival), Ramadan and Dhu al-Hijjah, are not defective.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، أَنَّ يَزِيدَ بْنَ زُرَيْعٍ، حَدَّثَهُمْ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ شَهْرَا عِيدٍ لاَ يَنْقُصَانِ رَمَضَانُ وَذُو الْحِجَّةِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the holiness of two months in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan and Dhu al-Hijjah. These two months are considered special by Muslims because they have many religious activities associated with them. During these two months, Muslims fast during the day in Ramadan and perform Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca during Dhu al-Hijjah. The Prophet Muhammad taught that these two months should be respected as they are not defective or lacking in any way. This means that we should take advantage of these special times to increase our faith and devotion to Allah by performing acts of worship such as fasting, praying, giving charity etc., so that we can reap its rewards both in this world and hereafter.
