Sunan Abi Dawud 2291 (Book 13, Hadith 117) #22582
Following the Book and Sunnah over Personal Opinion

SUMMARY: Umar bin Al Khattab refused to accept the statement of a woman as evidence, instead preferring to follow the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Abu Ishaq said "I was with Al Aswad in the congregational mosque. He said "Fathimah daughter of Qais came to 'Umar bin Al Khattab(may Allaah be pleased with him). (When she narrated the tradition about her divorce) he said "We are not to leave the Book of our Lord and the Sunnah of our Prophet for the statement of a woman, we do not know whether she remembered it or not".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights an important principle in Islamic jurisprudence, which is that when it comes to matters of religion, we should always refer back to the Quran and Sunnah. This means that even if someone has a personal opinion on something, it should not be taken as evidence or proof unless it is supported by what is found in either the Quran or Sunnah. Umar bin Al Khattab was emphasizing this point when he said that they cannot leave what Allah has revealed for something someone said without knowing whether they remembered correctly or not. This teaches us that we must always refer back to Allah's words and His Messenger's teachings before making any decisions about religious matters.
