Invoking Curses in Marriage

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ ordered a man and his wife to invoke curses on each other, but the man was instructed to stop at the fifth utterance.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: When the Prophet ordered a man and his wife to invoke curses on each other, he ordered a man to put his hand on his mouth when he came to the fifth utterance, saying that it would be the deciding one.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of your words when communicating with your spouse during difficult times
EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas, we learn that when a married couple is having difficulties in their relationship, they should not resort to cursing each other. Instead of escalating the situation with more words of anger and hurtful language, they should take a step back and pause after five utterances. This teaches us that it is important for couples to be mindful of their words when communicating with one another during difficult times. It also shows us that even though it may be hard to control our emotions in such situations, we must strive for self-control and restraint if we want our relationships to remain strong and healthy.
