Separating Spouses Who Invoke Curses

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ separated two spouses who invoked curses on each other.

Sahl bin Sa’ad said "The version of Musaddad has "I witnessed the invoking of curses by the two spouses during the life time of the Apostle of Allaah when I was fifteen years old. When they finished invoking curses, the Apostle of Allaah separated them from each other. Here ends the version of Musaddad. Others said "He was present when the Prophet separated the spouses who invoked curses on each other. The man (Sahl) said "I shall have lied against her, Apostle of Allaah if I keep her.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect marriage and avoid cursing your spouse .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet's decision to separate two spouses who were invoking curses on each other. It is narrated by Sahl bin Saad that he witnessed the invocation of curses by the two spouses during the lifetime of the Prophet when he was fifteen years old. When they finished invoking curses, the Prophet separated them from each other. Other narrators said that he was present when the Prophet separated them. The man said that if he kept her with him then it would be a lie against her and no one supported Ibn 'Uyainah's opinion that he separated them himself. This hadith teaches us to respect marriage and not to invoke curses on our spouse as it can lead to separation which should be avoided at all costs in order for a successful marriage relationship. We should also remember that lying against someone is wrong and we should always strive for truthfulness in our relationships with others.
