Sunan Abi Dawud 2236 (Book 13, Hadith 62) #22527
Choice of Emancipation

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave a woman the choice to stay with her husband, even if he was a slave, or to be emancipated.

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: Barirah was emancipated, and she was the wife of Mughith, a slave of Aal AbuAhmad. The Messenger of Allah gave her choice, and said to her: If he has intercourse with you, then there is no choice for you.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) decision regarding Barirah's emancipation. Barirah was married to Mughith, who was a slave of Aal AbuAhmad. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave her the choice between staying with her husband or being emancipated. He said that if Mughith had intercourse with her then she would not have any other choice but to stay with him. This hadith teaches us that everyone has the right to choose their own destiny and should not be forced into something they do not want. It also shows us how important it is for people in power to give those under them freedom and respect their decisions and choices in life.
