Waiting Period for Separated Women

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ made the waiting period of a woman who separated from her husband for a compensation equal to that of a menstrual course.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The wife of Thabit ibn Qays separated herself from him for a compensation. The Prophet made her waiting period a menstrual course. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted by 'Abd al-Razzaq from Ma'mar from 'Amr b. Muslim from 'Ikrimah from the Prophet in a mursal form (ie missing the link of the Companion).

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow rulings given by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) regarding divorce/separation processes with fairness and justice.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the waiting period of women who have separated from their husbands in exchange for compensation. According to this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ made the waiting period equal to that of a menstrual course. This means that if a woman separates from her husband and receives compensation, she must wait until one full menstrual cycle has passed before she can remarry. This is an important teaching as it ensures fairness and justice between both parties involved in the separation process. It also serves as an example of how Islam values marriage and encourages couples to work on their relationships before taking such drastic steps as separation or divorce.
