Sunan Abi Dawud 2195 (Book 13, Hadith 21) #22486
The Rules of Divorce

SUMMARY: Divorce is only permissible twice and divorced women must wait for three monthly periods before remarrying.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: Divorced women shall wait concerning themselves for three monthly periods. Nor is it lawful for them to hide what Allah hath created in their wombs. This means that if a man divorced his wife he had the right to take her back in marriage though he had divorced her by three pronouncements. This was then repealed (by a Qur'anic verse). Divorce is only permissible twice.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect towards women during difficult times like separation or dissolution of marriage; Care when considering separation or dissolution; Try best at reconciliation instead of resorting immediately to separation or dissolution; Follow Islamic teachings on rules regarding dissolving marriages .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the rules of divorce according to Islamic teachings. It states that a man can only divorce his wife twice, and after each divorce, the woman must wait for three months before she can remarry. During this period, it is not allowed for her to hide what Allah has created in her womb. Furthermore, if a man divorces his wife by pronouncing it thrice, he still has the right to take her back as long as this was done before the Quranic verse which repealed this practice was revealed. These teachings emphasize how important marriage is in Islam and how much care should be taken when considering divorce as an option. It also highlights how much respect should be given towards women during such difficult times and encourages couples to try their best at reconciliation instead of resorting immediately to separation or divorce.
