The Revelation of a Verse in the Quran

SUMMARY: This hadith explains how a verse in the Quran was revealed to address a false belief held by the Jews.

Muhammad bin Al Munkadir said I heard Jabir say The Jews used to say "When a man has intercourse with his wife through the vagina, but being on her back the child will have a squint, so the verse came down. Your wives are a tilth to you, so come to your tilth however you will".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains how a verse in the Quran was revealed to address an incorrect belief held by some Jews. It is said that they believed that if a man has intercourse with his wife while she is lying on her back, then their child will be born with squint eyes. To refute this false notion, Allah revealed the verse “Your wives are a tilth to you; so come unto your tilth however you will” which means that it does not matter what position one takes when engaging in intercourse as it does not affect any physical characteristics of their children. This hadith teaches us that we should always seek knowledge from reliable sources and not believe everything we hear without verifying its accuracy first. We should also remember that Allah knows best and He alone can provide us with true guidance about matters related to our faith and life.
