Sunan Abi Dawud 2140 (Book 12, Hadith 95) #22431
Prostration Before Husbands

SUMMARY: Prostration should not be done before anyone other than Allah, and husbands have a special right over their wives given by Allah.

Narrated Qays ibn Sa'd: I went to al-Hirah and saw them (the people) prostrating themselves before a satrap of theirs, so I said: The Messenger of Allah has most right to have prostration made before him. When I came to the Prophet , I said: I went to al-Hirah and saw them prostrating themselves before a satrap of theirs, but you have most right, Messenger of Allah, to have (people) prostrating themselves before you. He said: Tell me , if you were to pass my grave, would you prostrate yourself before it? I said: #He then said: Do not do so. If I were to command anyone to make prostration before another I would command women to prostrate themselves before their husbands, because of the special right over them given to husbands by Allah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your spouse's rights as granted by God .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of respecting the rights of husbands. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked if it was permissible to prostrate oneself before him, and he replied that it is not permissible to do so for anyone other than Allah. He then went on to explain that if he were to command someone to prostrate themselves before another, it would be women in front of their husbands due to the special right given by Allah. This hadith teaches us that we should respect our spouses and recognize the rights they have over us as granted by God. We should also remember that no one has any authority or power except for God alone, and we must never bow down or prostrate ourselves in front of anyone else but Him.
