Marriage Without Tashahhud

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ married Umamah daughter of 'Abd al-Muttalib to Isma'il bin Ibrahim without reciting the tashahhud.

Narrated Isma'il bin Ibrahim: On the authority of a man from Banu Sulaim: I asked the Prophet to marry Umamah daughter of 'Abd al-Muttalib to me. So he married her to me without reciting the tashahhud (ie the sermon for marriage).
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا بَدَلُ بْنُ الْمُحَبَّرِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ ابْنِ أَخِي، شُعَيْبٍ الرَّازِيِّ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ قَالَ خَطَبْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ أُمَامَةَ بِنْتَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَأَنْكَحَنِي مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَتَشَهَّدَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man named Isma'il bin Ibrahim who asked the Prophet to marry Umamah daughter of 'Abd al-Muttalib to him. The Prophet agreed and married them without reciting the tashahhud which is a sermon for marriage. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible in Islam to marry someone without reciting the tashahhud. It also shows us that it was common practice during the time of Prophet Muhammad for people to get married without having a sermon or any other formalities.
