Sahih al-Bukhari 2332 (Book 41, Hadith 13) #2234
Rental of Land Forbidden

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade people from renting land and taking the yield of one portion as rent while leaving the other portion for themselves.

Narrated Rafi': We worked on farms more than anybody else in Medina. We used to rent the land and say to the owner, "The yield of this portion is for us and the yield of that portion is for you (as the rent)". One of those portions might yield something and the other might not. So, the Prophet forbade us to do so.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest and just in our dealings with others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about rental of land, which was a common practice in Medina at that time. People used to rent out their land and take the yield of one portion as rent while leaving the other portion for themselves. However, this practice was forbidden by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He taught us that it is not fair to take advantage of someone else's property without their permission or consent. We should always be honest and just in our dealings with others, even if it means we have to make some sacrifices ourselves. This hadith teaches us values such as honesty, justice, fairness and respect for others’ property rights.
