Learning the Rites of Hajj

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was teaching people the rites of Hajj and reminding them to learn it as he did not know if he would be able to perform Hajj again.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah : I saw the Messenger of Allah throwing pebbles on the day of sacrifice while on his riding beast and saying: Learn your rites, for I do not know whether I am likely to perform Hajj after this occasion.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَرْمِي عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ لِتَأْخُذُوا مَنَاسِكَكُمْ فَإِنِّي لاَ أَدْرِي لَعَلِّي لاَ أَحُجُّ بَعْدَ حَجَّتِي هَذِهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was teaching people about the rites of Hajj on his riding beast. He reminded them to learn it as he did not know if he would be able to perform Hajj again. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to learn and understand our religious duties so that we can practice them properly. It also reminds us that life is uncertain and we should make sure that we are prepared for any situation in life. We should also take advantage of every opportunity given to us in order to gain knowledge and understanding about our religion so that we can practice it correctly.
