Sunan Abi Dawud 1934 (Book 11, Hadith 214) #22226
Combining Prayers at Al Muzdalifah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) combined two prayers at Al Muzdalifah and offered the dawn prayer before its proper time.

Ibn Mas’ud said " I never saw the Apostle of Allaah observe a prayer out of its proper time except(two prayers) at Al Muzdalifah. He combined the sunset and night prayers at Al Muzdalifah and he offered the dawn prayer that day before its proper time.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect Islamic law and strive to pray on time with mindfulness of intentions .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that we should pray five times a day, each prayer having its own specific time. However, in certain situations, such as when travelling or during Hajj, it is permissible to combine two prayers together. This hadith tells us that the Prophet ﷺ combined the sunset and night prayers at Al Muzdalifah and offered the dawn prayer before its proper time. This teaches us that although we should strive to pray on time, there are certain exceptions where combining or offering a prayer earlier than usual is allowed. We must also remember to be mindful of our intentions when doing so; if we are combining two prayers for convenience rather than necessity then this would not be permissible according to Islamic law.
