Sunan Abi Dawud 1887 (Book 11, Hadith 167) #22179
Continuing Traditions in Islam

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of continuing to practice the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) even after Islam has been strengthened and disbelief has been obliterated.

Aslam said: I heard Umar ibn al-Khattab say: What is the need of walking proudly (ramal) and moving the shoulders (while going round the Ka'bah)? Allah has now strengthened Islam and obliterated disbelief and the infidels. In spite of that we shall not forsake anything that we used to do during the time of the Messenger of Allah .

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow in Prophet Muhammad's footsteps, Strive to follow Allah's commands and teachings

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of continuing to practice the traditions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ even after Islam has been strengthened and disbelief has been obliterated. Umar ibn al-Khattab was questioning why people were still walking proudly and moving their shoulders while going around Ka'bah, when Allah had already made it clear that He had strengthened Islam and eliminated disbelief. The answer is that we should continue to do what we used to do during the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, as a sign of respect for him and his teachings. It is important for Muslims today to remember this lesson, as it serves as a reminder that we should always strive to follow in his footsteps no matter how strong our faith may be or how much progress we have made in eliminating disbelief from our lives. We must never forget our roots or neglect our duty towards Allah by abandoning His commands or neglecting His teachings.
