Sunan Abi Dawud 1720 (Book 10, Hadith 20) #22012
Straying from Right Path

SUMMARY: This hadith is about not straying from the right path and not mixing a stray animal with one's own animals.

Narrated Al-Mundhir ibn Jarir: I accompanied Jarir at Bawazij. The shepherd brought the cows. Among them there was a cow that was not one of them. Jarir asked him: What is this? He replied: This was mixed with the cows and we do not know to whom it belongs. Jarir said: Take it out. I heard the Messenger of Allah say: No one mixes a stray animal (with his animals) but a man who strays from right path.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the importance of staying on the right path and avoiding any kind of wrongdoing. It is narrated by Al-Mundhir ibn Jarir that he accompanied Jarir at Bawazij, where a shepherd brought cows to him. Among them was a cow that did not belong to them. When asked, the shepherd replied that it was mixed with their cows and they did not know whose it was. Upon hearing this, Jarir ordered him to take it out as he remembered hearing Prophet Muhammad say “No one mixes a stray animal with his animals but a man who strays from right path”. This hadith teaches us that we should always stay on the right path and avoid any kind of wrongdoing or misdeeds as they can lead us astray from our goals in life. We should also be careful when dealing with other people’s property or belongings as we do not want to mix up something which does not belong to us in our own possessions or activities.
