Taxation on Crops

SUMMARY: A tenth of the produce is payable as a tax on crops that are watered by rain, rivers, brooks or underground moisture and a twentieth of the produce is payable as a tax on crops that are watered by draught camels.

Narrated 'Abdallah bin Umar : The Messenger of Allah as saying A tenth is payable on what is watered by rain or rivers or brooks or from underground moisture and a twentieth on what is watered by draught camels.
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْهَيْثَمِ الأَيْلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ فِيمَا سَقَتِ السَّمَاءُ وَالأَنْهَارُ وَالْعُيُونُ أَوْ كَانَ بَعْلاً الْعُشْرُ وَفِيمَا سُقِيَ بِالسَّوَانِي أَوِ النَّضْحِ نِصْفُ الْعُشْرِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about taxation on crops. It states that if the crop is watered by rain, rivers, brooks or underground moisture then a tenth of it should be paid as tax and if it is watered by draught camels then one-twentieth should be paid as tax. This hadith teaches us to pay taxes honestly and in full amount so that we can help our government in running its affairs properly. It also teaches us to be honest in our dealings with others and not to cheat them out of their money. We should also remember that Allah will reward us for being honest and truthful in all our dealings with others.
