Prostrations in Surah al-Hajj

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed that if someone is reciting Surah al-Hajj, they should make two prostrations.

Narrated Uqbah ibn Amir: I said to the Messenger of Allah : Are there two prostrations in Surah al-Hajj? He replied: Yes; if anyone does not make two prostrations, he should not recite them.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، أَنَّ مِشْرَحَ بْنَ هَاعَانَ أَبَا الْمُصْعَبِ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ أَفِي سُورَةِ الْحَجِّ سَجْدَتَانِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ نَعَمْ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْجُدْهُمَا فَلاَ يَقْرَأْهُمَا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of prayer and reciting the Qur’an. It was narrated by Uqbah ibn Amir who asked the Prophet Muhammad whether there were two prostrations in Surah al-Hajj. The Prophet replied that if someone does not make two prostrations, they should not recite them. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our prayers and to take time to properly recite the verses of the Qur’an with reverence and respect. It also reminds us that we should always strive to perform our prayers correctly and with sincerity so as to gain Allah's blessings.
