The Prophet's Shepherding Experience

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was asked if he had ever been a shepherd, to which he replied that he had been a shepherd of the people of Mecca for some Qirats.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah did not send any prophet but shepherded sheep". His companions asked him, "Did you do the same?" The Prophet replied, "Yes, I used to shepherd the sheep of the people of Mecca for some Qirats".

QUICK LESSONS:
Work hard & stay humble throughout your journey

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the experience of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as a shepherd. He was asked by his companions if he had ever done this job before, and he replied that yes, in fact, when he lived in Mecca, he used to be a shepherd for some qirats. A qirat is an old form of currency used in Arabia at the time. This shows us that even though the Prophet ﷺ was sent by Allah as a messenger and leader for all mankind, it did not mean that his life before prophethood was any less important or valuable. He still worked hard and did what needed to be done to provide for himself and his family. It also teaches us humility; no matter how great our position may be or how much we have achieved in life, we should never forget where we came from or who helped us get there. We should always remember our roots and stay humble throughout our journey.
