The Night Prayer of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to pray 13 rak'ahs during the night, observing the witr prayer with nine and two rak'ahs while sitting. He also used to pray two rak'ahs of the dawn prayer between the adhan and iqamah.

Narrated 'Aishah: The Messenger of Allah used to pray thirteen rak'ahs during the night, observing the witr prayer with nine (or as she said). He used to pray two rak'ahs while sitting and pray two rak'ahs of the dawn prayer between the adhan and the iqamah.
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ - حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ - عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، رضى الله عنها ‏:‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَلاَثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُوتِرُ بِسَبْعٍ أَوْ كَمَا قَالَتْ، وَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ، وَرَكْعَتَىِ الْفَجْرِ بَيْنَ الأَذَانِ وَالإِقَامَةِ

EXPLANATIONS:
According to this hadith narrated by Aishah, Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to pray 13 Rak’ahs during the night, observing witr prayer with nine Rak’ahs. He also used to pray two Rak’ahs while sitting and two Rak’ahs of dawn prayer between adhan and iqamah. This hadith teaches us that we should be devoted in our prayers as it is one of our most important duties as Muslims. We should strive for consistency in our prayers so that it becomes a habit for us and we can reap its rewards both in this world and hereafter. It is also important for us to understand what each part of salat entails so that we can perform it correctly according to Sunnah.
