Sunan Abi Dawud 1326 (Book 5, Hadith 77) #21618
Night Prayer in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that night prayer should be done in pairs of rak'ahs, but if one fears the morning is near, they can pray one rak'ah to make their prayer an odd number.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: A man asked the Messenger of Allah about the prayer at night. The Messenger of Allah said: Prayer during the night should consist of pairs of rak'ahs, but if one of you fears the morning is near he should pray one rak'ah which will make his prayer an odd number for him.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray during the night; Take advantage of peacefulness at night by praying; Prioritize your prayers even when faced with limited time constraints; Seek Allah's guidance through salah; Complete salah in pairs or an odd number depending on available time constraints.

EXPLANATIONS:
Muslims are encouraged to pray at night as it is a time of peace and tranquility. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that night prayer should be done in pairs of rak'ahs, which are units of standing, bowing and prostrating during salah. However, if one fears the morning is near and they will not have enough time to complete their prayer before sunrise then they can pray one rak’ah which will make their prayer an odd number for them. This hadith teaches us that we should take advantage of the peacefulness at night by praying and seeking Allah’s guidance. It also teaches us that we should prioritize our prayers even when faced with limited time constraints.
