Buying Fruits with Advance Payment

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught the people of Medina to buy fruits by paying their prices in advance, with a fixed specified measure and weight, within a fixed specified period.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet came to Medina and the people used to pay in advance the prices of fruits to be delivered within two to three years. The Prophet said (to them), "Buy fruits by paying their prices in advance on condition that the fruits are to be delivered to you according to a fixed specified measure within a fixed specified period". Ibn Najih said, " . by specified measure and specified weight".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ الْمَدِينَةَ وَهُمْ يُسْلِفُونَ فِي الثِّمَارِ السَّنَتَيْنِ وَالثَّلاَثَ، فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَسْلِفُوا فِي الثِّمَارِ فِي كَيْلٍ مَعْلُومٍ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مَعْلُومٍ ‏"‏‏.‏ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، وَقَالَ، ‏"‏ فِي كَيْلٍ مَعْلُومٍ وَوَزْنٍ مَعْلُومٍ

He instructed them to pay for the fruits in advance and that they should be delivered according to a fixed specified measure and weight within a fixed specified period. This hadith teaches us about being organized when it comes to buying things, especially food items like fruits. It also teaches us about being responsible when it comes to making payments on time so that we can receive our goods as promised. Furthermore, this hadith also emphasizes on accuracy when it comes to measurements and weights so that everyone is treated fairly and no one is taken advantage of or cheated out of their money or goods.
