Sunan Abi Dawud 1238 (Book 4, Hadith 41) #21530
Praying in Times of Danger

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) leading a prayer in time of danger and how he divided his followers into two sections, one to pray with him and the other to stand against the enemy.

Narrated Salih b. Khawwat: On the authority of a person who offered the prayer in time of danger along with the Messenger of Allah at the battle of Dhat al-Riqa. One section of people stood in the row of prayer along with the Messenger of Allah and the other section remained standing in front of the enemy. He led those who were with him in one rak'ah and remained standing (in his place) and they completed (the second rak'ah) by themselves. Then they turned away and arrayed before the enemy. Thereafter the other section came and he led them in the rak'ah which remained from his prayer. He then remained sitting (in his place) and they completed their one rak'ah by themselves. He then uttered the salutation along with them. Malik said: I like the tradition reported by Yazid b. Ruman (ie the present tradition) more than (other versions) I heard.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Prophet Muhammad PBUH led a prayer in times of danger during the battle of Dhat al-Riqa. He divided his followers into two sections, one to pray with him and the other to stand against the enemy. He led those who were with him in one rak’ah and remained standing while they completed their second rak’ah by themselves. Then they turned away and arrayed before the enemy while he waited for them to finish their prayer before uttering salutations along with them. This hadith teaches us that even when faced with danger, we should not forget our prayers as it is an important part of our faith as Muslims. It also shows us that we should always be prepared for any situation, no matter how difficult it may seem at first glance, by having faith in Allah SWT and trusting Him completely.
