Giving Alms on the Day of Breaking Fast

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) commanded women to give alms on the day of breaking the fast and they began to put their jewelry in Bilal's garment.

Ibn 'Abbas said: The Messenger of Allah came out on the day of the breaking of the fast and prayed two rak'ahs, before and after which he did not pray. He then went to women, taking Bilal with him, and commanded them to given alms. So one began to put her ear-ring and another her necklace (in the garment of Bilal).

QUICK LESSONS:
Give alms generously during Ramadan when fasting .

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of breaking fast, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prayed two rak'ahs and then went to women and asked them to give alms. Women started giving their jewelry such as earrings and necklaces in Bilal's garment. This hadith teaches us that it is important for Muslims to be generous with charity, especially during Ramadan when we are fasting. It also shows us that even small acts of charity can make a difference, as even jewelry was given away for charity. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about being humble; Bilal was chosen by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a recipient for these donations instead of himself or any other person who may have been more prominent than him at that time.
