Sunan Abi Dawud 1104 (Book 2, Hadith 715) #21396
Gesturing While Praying on Fridays

SUMMARY: The hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to gesture with his forefinger while praying on Fridays, and how 'Umarah b. Ruwaibah disapproved of Bishr b. Marwan's gesture of raising his hands while praying on Fridays.

'Umarah b. Ruwaibah said that he saw Bishr b. Marwan (on the pulpit) praying on Friday (by raising his hands)'.Umarah said: May Allah reject these hands! I have seen the Messenger of Allah on the pulpit gesturing no more than this pointing with his forefinger.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Sunnah when it comes to prayer, Refer back to what was done by our beloved Prophet PBUH as an example for us all

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of following the Sunnah when it comes to prayer, specifically in regards to Friday prayers. It is narrated by 'Umarah b. Ruwaibah that he saw Bishr b. Marwan praying on a pulpit by raising his hands, which was not done by the Prophet Muhammad PBUH who only gestured with his forefinger instead of raising both hands during prayer on Fridays as seen in other days of prayer. This shows us that we should be careful when it comes to following religious practices and should always refer back to what was done by our beloved Prophet PBUH as an example for us all, even if it may seem insignificant or small at first glance such as this gesture during prayer time on Fridays .
