Raising the Forefinger

SUMMARY: The Prophet (peace be upon him) was seen raising his forefinger while placing his right hand on his right thigh.

Narrated AbuMalik Numayr al-Khuza'i: I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him placing his right hand on his right thigh and raising his forefinger curving it a little.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ، - مِنْ بَنِي بُجَيْلَةَ - عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ الْخُزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ وَاضِعًا ذِرَاعَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُمْنَى رَافِعًا أُصْبُعَهُ السَّبَّابَةَ قَدْ حَنَاهَا شَيْئًا

This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's physical action of raising his forefinger while placing his right hand on his right thigh. This action is known as Isti'adha, which is a gesture of seeking refuge in Allah from evil and shaytan. It is also a sign of remembrance and glorification to Allah, as well as an expression of faith in Him. It serves as a reminder to believers that they should always seek refuge in Allah from all evil and harm, and that they should always remember Him with gratitude for His blessings.
