Sale of Dates of 'Araya

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) allowed the sale of dates of 'Araya provided they were in a certain amount.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet allowed the sale of the dates of 'Araya provided they were about five Awsuq (singular: Wasaq which means sixty Sa's) or less (in amount).
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مَالِكًا، وَسَأَلَهُ، عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ أَحَدَّثَكَ دَاوُدُ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ رَخَّصَ فِي بَيْعِ الْعَرَايَا فِي خَمْسَةِ أَوْسُقٍ أَوْ دُونَ خَمْسَةِ أَوْسُقٍ قَالَ نَعَمْ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's allowance for the sale of dates from a place called 'Araya. The Prophet Muhammad said that it was permissible to sell these dates as long as they were no more than five Awsuq or sixty Sa's in amount. An Awsuq is a unit of measurement and sixty Sa's is equal to one Awsuq. This hadith teaches us that it is important to be mindful when selling goods and not to overcharge people for them. It also teaches us that we should be honest and fair when conducting business transactions with others.
