Sunan Abi Dawud 635 (Book 2, Hadith 245) #20926
Clothing for Prayer

SUMMARY: It is important to use clothing for prayer and not to wear it in a way that resembles the Jews.

Ibn 'Umar reported the Messenger of Allah as saying, or reported 'Umar as saying (the narrator is doubtful): if one of you has two (piece of) cloth, he should pray in them; if he has a single (piece of) cloth, he should use it as a wrapper, and should not hang it upon the shoulder like the Jews.

QUICK LESSONS:
Use your clothes as wrappers when you pray instead of hanging them on your shoulder like the Jews do.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of using clothing for prayer and not wearing it in a way that resembles the Jews. It is reported by either Ibn 'Umar or 'Umar, both of whom were companions of Prophet Muhammad. The hadith encourages Muslims to use their clothes as wrappers when praying, rather than hanging them on their shoulders like the Jews do. This teaches us that we should be mindful of our appearance when praying and dress modestly, so as not to imitate other religions or cultures. Additionally, this hadith also reminds us that we should be respectful towards other religions and cultures even if they are different from ours.
