Sunan Abi Dawud 604 (Book 2, Hadith 214) #20895
Following the Imam and Keeping Silent During Recitation

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ said that the Imam should be followed and when he recites, people should remain silent.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet said: The imam is appointed only to be followed. This version adds: When he recites (the Qur'an), keep silent". Abu Dawud said: The addition of the words "When he recites, keep silent" in this version are not guarded. The misunderstanding, according to us, is on the part of Abu Khalid (a narrator).

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow your leader's instructions without questioning them too much; Listen carefully when your leader speaks or recites from Quran; Respect your leaders; Trust in Allah's judgement even if you don't agree with it all of time

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about following an imam and keeping silent during his recitation. It was narrated by Abu Hurayrah who reported that the Prophet said that an imam is appointed only to be followed. He also added that when he recites, people should remain silent. This means that it is important to listen carefully to what the imam says and not talk while he is speaking or reciting from the Quran. It also teaches us to respect our leaders and follow their instructions without questioning them too much. We must remember that they are appointed by Allah for a reason, so we must trust in their judgement even if we don't agree with it all of the time.
