Usury in Trading

SUMMARY: Selling of wheat, barley and dates for the same type of goods is usury except if it is done hand to hand and in equal amounts.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet said, "The selling of wheat for wheat is Riba (usury) except if it is handed from hand to hand and equal in amount. Similarly the selling of barley for barley, is Riba except if it is from hand to hand and equal in amount, and dates for dates is usury except if it is from hand to hand and equal in amount. .

QUICK LESSONS:
Trade fairly with others by exchanging items directly without any extra money or goods being exchanged
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that trading wheat, barley and dates for the same type of goods is considered usury or Riba unless it is done hand to hand and in equal amounts. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that this kind of trading was not allowed as it would be unfair for one party involved. He also taught that if a person wanted to trade these items, they should do so by exchanging them directly with each other without any extra money or goods being exchanged. This way both parties would receive an equal amount of what they were trading. It teaches us fairness when dealing with others and not taking advantage of someone else's situation.
