Sunan Abi Dawud 514 (Book 2, Hadith 124) #20805
The Adhan and Iqamah

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ commanded Ziyad ibn al-Harith as-sudai to call the adhan and Bilal wanted to utter the iqamah, but the Prophet ﷺ said that Ziyad should be the one to do it.

Narrated Ziyad ibn al-Harith as-____sudai: When the adhan for the dawn prayer was initially introduced, the Prophet commanded me to call the adhan and I did so. Then I began to ask: Should I utter iqamah, Messenger of Allah? But he began to look at the direction of the east, (waiting) for the break of dawn, and said: #When the dawn broke, he came down and performed ablution and he then turned to me. In the meantime his Companions joined him. Then Bilal wanted to utter the iqamah, but the Prophet said to him: The man of sudai has called the adhan, and he who calls the adhan utters the iqamah.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Muslims are called to prayer. It was narrated by Ziyad ibn al-Harith as-sudai who was commanded by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to call out the adhan for dawn prayer. The adhan is a special call that Muslims make before they pray in order to remind them of their duty towards Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. After this, Bilal wanted to utter the iqamah which is another special call made after everyone has gathered for prayer but instead, it was decided that Ziyad should be the one who utters it instead. This hadith teaches us about how important it is for us as Muslims to follow our religious duties and obligations with respect and obedience towards Allah's commands. It also shows us how we should always strive for excellence in whatever we do so that we can be rewarded with blessings from Allah SWT.
