Sunan Abi Dawud 380 (Book 1, Hadith 380) #20671
Kindness and Mercy in Difficult Situations

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teaching people to be kind and merciful, even when faced with difficult situations.

Abu Hurairah reported: A bedouin entered the mosque while the Messenger of Allah was sitting. He offered two rak'ahs of prayer, according to the version of Ibn 'Abdah. He then said: O Allah, have mercy on me and on Muhammad and do not have mercy on anyone along with us. The Prophet said: You have narrowed down (a thing) that was broader. After a short while he passed a water in the corner of the mosque. The people rushed towards him. The Prophet prevented them and said: You have been sent to facilitate and not create difficulties. Pour a bucket of water upon it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be kind & merciful even in difficult situations; facilitate things rather than creating difficulties; follow what Allah expects from us as Muslims

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's teachings on kindness and mercy. In this story, a bedouin enters the mosque while the Prophet was sitting there. He offers two rak'ahs of prayer and then says "O Allah have mercy on me and on Muhammad but not anyone else". The Prophet responds by saying that he has narrowed down something that was broader. After a short while he passes water in the corner of the mosque which causes people to rush towards him. However, instead of getting angry or punishing him for his mistake, the Prophet prevents them from doing so and tells them to pour a bucket of water over it instead. This teaches us that we should always be kind and merciful even when faced with difficult situations as this is what Allah expects from us as Muslims. We should also try our best to facilitate things rather than creating difficulties for others as this will bring us closer to Allah's pleasure.
