Sahih al-Bukhari 2151 (Book 34, Hadith 103) #2066
Buying Unmilked Sheep

SUMMARY: A person who buys a sheep that has not been milked for a long time can keep it if they are satisfied with it, but if not, they must pay one Sa of dates for the milk.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger said, "Whoever buys a sheep which has been kept unmilked for a long period, and milks it, can keep it if he is satisfied, and if he is not satisfied, he can return it, but he should pay one Sa of dates for the milk".

QUICK LESSONS:
Check quality before purchasing; Be honest and fair in dealings; Pay any losses incurred when returning unsatisfactory items.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about buying an unmilked sheep. It teaches us that when we buy something, we should be sure to check its quality and make sure it is satisfactory before making the purchase. If we are not satisfied with what we have bought, then we should return it and pay for any losses incurred in the process. In this case, the buyer must pay one Sa of dates for the milk that was lost due to them buying an unmilked sheep. This hadith also teaches us to be honest and fair in our dealings with others; even though there may be some losses incurred by returning something unsatisfactory, these losses should still be paid by the buyer as part of their responsibility as a consumer.
