Sunan Abi Dawud 268 (Book 1, Hadith 268) #20559
Menstruation and Intimacy in Islam

SUMMARY: During menstruation, the Prophet asked his wives to tie a waist wrapper and then their husbands could lay with them.

'Aishah said; When anyone amongst us (the wives of the Prophet) menstruated, the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) asked her to tie a waist wrapper (over her body) and then husband lay with her, or he (Shu’bah) said: embraced her.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show love and compassion towards your spouse despite any physical changes due to menstruation. Remain close and connected with each other even during this time of physical impurity. Follow boundaries set by Allah SWT while being intimate with your spouse .

EXPLANATIONS:
According to the hadith narrated by Aishah, when any of the wives of Prophet Muhammad were menstruating, he asked them to tie a waist wrapper around their body before they could be intimate with their husbands. This shows that even during this time of physical impurity, Muslims are encouraged to remain close and connected with each other. The Prophet's guidance also serves as an example for us today on how we should treat our spouses during this time. We should not neglect or ignore our partners but instead show love and compassion towards them despite any physical changes that may occur due to menstruation. Furthermore, it is important for us to remember that intimacy between spouses is permissible in Islam as long as it is done within the boundaries set by Allah SWT.
