Sunan Abi Dawud 19 (Book 1, Hadith 19) #20310
Removing Rings in the Privy

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ removed his ring when entering the privy and had a silver ring made for him.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: When the Prophet entered the privy, he removed his ring. Abu Dawud said: This is a munkar tradition, ie it contradicts the well-known version reported by reliable narrators. On the authority of Anas the well-known version says: The Prophet had a silver ring made for him. Then he cast it off. The misunderstanding is on the part of Hammam (who is the narrator of the previous tradition mentioned in the text). This is transmitted only by Hammam.

Be mindful of your actions even in private moments

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet's practice of removing his ring when entering the privy. It is narrated by Anas ibn Malik, who was one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad. He said that when entering a toilet, he would remove his ring. The Prophet then had a silver ring made for himself and cast it off afterwards. This teaches us to be mindful of our actions even in private moments, as we should always strive to do what is right and proper according to Islamic teachings. We should also remember that even small acts can have great significance in our lives, as they can help us stay on track with our faith and values.
