Sunan Abi Dawud 13 (Book 1, Hadith 13) #20304
Facing the Qiblah While Making Water

SUMMARY: The Prophet of Allah forbade facing the qiblah while making water, but was seen doing so one year before his death.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet of Allah forbade us to face the qiblah at the time of making water. Then I saw him facing it (qiblah) urinating or easing himself one year before his death.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow what our Prophet has said

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a prohibition that was given by the Prophet of Allah. He forbade people from facing the qiblah while making water, which means going to the bathroom or urinating. However, one year before his death he was seen doing this himself. This could mean that it is permissible to face the qiblah in certain circumstances or it could be an exception for him as a prophet of Allah. Either way, this hadith teaches us that we should always follow what our Prophet has said and not do something just because someone else does it. We should also remember that even if something is permissible in certain circumstances, we should still try to avoid it if possible and respect our religion and its teachings at all times.
