Dedication to Seeking Knowledge

SUMMARY: Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak was very dedicated to seeking knowledge.

'Ubaidullah bin Sa'eed said: "I heard Abu Usamah say: 'I never saw any man more assiduous in seeking knowledge than 'Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak, not in Ash-Sham, Egypt, Yemen or the Hijaz'."
أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُسَامَةَ، يَقُولُ مَا رَأَيْتُ رَجُلاً أَطْلَبَ لِلْعِلْمِ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ الشَّامَاتِ وَمِصْرَ وَالْيَمَنَ وَالْحِجَازَ

This hadith speaks of the dedication of Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak in seeking knowledge. He was so devoted to learning that he would travel far and wide, from Ash-Sham, Egypt, Yemen and the Hijaz in order to gain more knowledge. This hadith teaches us that we should be just as dedicated in our pursuit of knowledge and never give up on learning new things. We should strive for excellence in our studies and never be content with what we already know; rather, we should always seek out more information so that we can become better Muslims and better people overall.
