Sahih al-Bukhari 2110 (Book 34, Hadith 63) #2026
Honesty in Bargaining

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that buyers and sellers should be honest with each other when making a bargain, and if they are truthful and transparent about the goods, their bargain will be blessed by Allah.

Narrated Hakim bin Hizam: The Prophet said, "The buyer and the seller have the option of canceling or confirming the bargain unless they separate, and if they spoke the truth and made clear the defects of the goods, them they would be blessed in their bargain, and if they told lies and hid some facts, their bargain would be deprived of Allah's blessings".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest when bargaining with others; tell them all relevant information regarding what you are trading; speak truthfully; make sure any defects of goods are made clear.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of honesty when bargaining. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if buyers and sellers are truthful to each other about the goods they are trading, then Allah will bless their bargain. This means that Allah will make sure that both parties benefit from the deal. On the other hand, if either party lies or hides facts about what is being traded, then Allah's blessing will not be on their transaction. Therefore it is important for both parties to be honest with each other so that everyone can benefit from a fair deal.
