Changes in Islamic Rulings

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) changed his rulings on visiting graves, keeping sacrificial meat and drinking Nabidh from water skins to any vessel but not intoxicants.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Buraidah that his father said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW said: 'I used to forbid you to visit graves, but (now) visit them. And I forbade you (to keep) the sacrificial meat for three days, but now keep whatever you wish. And I forbade Nabidh to you, unless it was (made) in a water skin, but now drink from all kinds of vessels but do not drink any intoxicant'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Visit graves, keep sacrifical meat for as long as you wish , drink nabdih from any vessel but not intoxicant .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's changing of certain Islamic rulings. He used to forbid people from visiting graves, keeping sacrificial meat for more than three days and drinking Nabidh unless it was made in a water skin. However, he later changed these rulings and allowed people to visit graves, keep sacrificial meat for as long as they wish and drink Nabidh from any vessel but not intoxicants. This hadith teaches us that the Prophet Muhammad was open to change when necessary and that we should be too if it is beneficial for us or our society. It also teaches us that we should stay away from intoxicants as they are forbidden in Islam.
