The Benefits of Soaking Fruits Overnight

SUMMARY: Soaking fruits overnight and drinking it in the morning is recommended, while using gourds, naqir, muzaffat and hantam is forbidden.

It was narrated that Hunaidah bint Sharik bin Aban said: "I met 'Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, in Al-Khuraibah, and I asked her about the dregs and she forbade them to me and she said: 'Soak (the fruit) at night and drink it in the morning, and tie the vessel closed'. And she forbade me from using Ad-Dubba' (gourds), An-Naqir, Al-Muzaffat, and Al-Hantam".
أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدٌ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ طَوْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْقَيْسِيِّ، - بَصْرِيٌّ - قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ هُنَيْدَةَ بِنْتِ شَرِيكِ بْنِ زَبَّانَ، قَالَتْ لَقِيتُ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا بِالْخُرَيْبَةِ فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنِ الْعَكَرِ فَنَهَتْنِي عَنْهُ وَقَالَتِ انْبِذِي عَشِيَّةً وَاشْرَبِيهِ غُدْوَةً وَأَوْكِي عَلَيْهِ ‏.‏ وَنَهَتْنِي عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالنَّقِيرِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith was narrated by Hunaidah bint Sharik bin Aban who met 'Aishah and asked her about the dregs. 'Aishah advised her to soak fruits overnight and drink it in the morning as well as to tie the vessel closed. She also forbade her from using Ad-Dubba', An-Naqir, Al-Muzaffat and Al-Hantam. This hadith encourages us to soak fruits overnight for better health benefits as well as warns us against using certain vessels that are not suitable for consumption. It teaches us that we should be mindful of what we consume so that our health is not compromised in any way. We should also take precautionary measures such as tying a vessel closed when storing food or drinks so that they remain safe from contamination or spoilage.
