EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a prohibition that was given by Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. He forbade the use of two types of containers, Ad-Dubba’ and Al-Muzaffat. Ad Dubba’ are gourds which are large fruits with hard shells that can be used as containers for liquids or other items. Al Muzaffat are also containers but they are made from leather and have been tanned with alum or some other material to make them waterproof. Both these types of containers were forbidden by Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, as it was not permissible to use them in certain situations such as when performing ablution for prayer or when preparing food for consumption. The essence of this hadith is that we should take care to ensure that whatever we use in our daily lives is permissible according to Islamic teachings and not something which has been prohibited by our beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
