Unlawfulness of Intoxicants

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the unlawfulness of consuming any kind of intoxicants.

Al-Aswad bin Shaiban As-Sadusi said: "I heard 'Ata' being asked by a man: 'We travel and drinks are offered to us in the marketplaces, and we do not know what kind of vessels they were prepared in'. He said: 'Every intoxicant is unlawful'. He repeated the question and he said: 'Every intoxicant is unlawful'. He repeated the question and he said: 'It is as I have told you'."
أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدٌ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا الأَسْوَدُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ السَّدُوسِيُّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءً، سَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّا نَرْكَبُ أَسْفَارًا فَتُبْرَزُ لَنَا الأَشْرِبَةُ فِي الأَسْوَاقِ لاَ نَدْرِي أَوْعِيَتَهَا ‏.‏ فَقَالَ كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ ‏.‏ فَذَهَبَ يُعِيدُ فَقَالَ كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ ‏.‏ فَذَهَبَ يُعِيدُ فَقَالَ هُوَ مَا أَقُولُ لَكَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the unlawfulness of consuming any kind of intoxicants. It was narrated by Al-Aswad bin Shaiban As-Sadusi who heard 'Ata' being asked by a man if it was permissible to consume drinks offered in marketplaces without knowing what kind of vessels they were prepared in. 'Ata' replied that every intoxicant is unlawful and repeated this answer when the question was asked again. This hadith teaches us that we should not consume any type of intoxicants as it is prohibited in Islam and can lead to many negative consequences such as addiction and health problems. We should also be aware that even if we are unsure what kind of vessel a drink has been prepared in, it still remains unlawful for us to consume it.
