Prohibition of Intoxicating Drinks

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) prohibited the consumption of any drink that causes intoxication.

It was narrated that 'Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that : The Messenger of Allah SAW was asked about mead and he said: "Every drink that intoxicates is unlawful," and mead is made from honey.
أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدٌ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، رضى اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْبِتْعِ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ كُلُّ شَرَابٍ أَسْكَرَ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ وَالْبِتْعُ مِنَ الْعَسَلِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by 'Aishah states that the Prophet Muhammad was asked about mead and he replied that every drink which causes intoxication is unlawful. This means that all drinks which cause a person to become drunk are forbidden in Islam. This includes alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine as well as other drinks like mead which is made from honey. This hadith serves to remind us of the importance of avoiding intoxicants and staying away from activities or substances which can lead to addiction or harm our health in any way.
