Seeking Refuge with Allah from Hardships and Calamities

SUMMARY: The hadith is about seeking refuge from Allah from the hardships of travel, sorrows of return, loss after plenty, supplication of the one who has been wronged and calamity befalling family or wealth.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Sarjis that : When the Messenger of Allah SAW traveled, he would say: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safari, wa kabatil-munqalabi, wal-hawri ba'dal-kawri, wa da'watil-mazlumi, wa suw'il-munzari fil-ahli wal-mal (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the hardships of travel and the sorrows of return, from loss after plenty, from the supplication of the one who has been wronged, and seeing some calamity befall my family or wealth)"
أَخْبَرَنَا أَزْهَرُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ إِذَا سَافَرَ قَالَ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ وَكَآبَةِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ وَالْحَوْرِ بَعْدَ الْكَوْرِ وَدَعْوَةِ الْمَظْلُومِ وَسُوءِ الْمَنْظَرِ فِي الأَهْلِ وَالْمَالِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Abdullah bin Sarjis and it talks about seeking refuge with Allah from the hardships of travel, sorrows of return, loss after plenty, supplication of the one who has been wronged and calamity befalling family or wealth. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah when we are travelling as He is our protector in times of difficulty. We should also seek His protection against any losses that may occur during our travels such as losing money or possessions. Furthermore, we should ask for His protection against any injustice that may be done to us while travelling such as being treated unfairly by others. Finally, we should ask for His protection against any harm that may come to our families or wealth while we are away from home.
