Sahih al-Bukhari 2077 (Book 34, Hadith 30) #1993
Generosity and Forgiveness towards the Needy

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of being generous and forgiving to those who are in need.

Narrated Hudhaifa: The Prophet said, "Before your time the angels received the soul of a man and asked him, 'Did you do any good deeds (in your life)?' He replied, 'I used to order my employees to grant time to the rich person to pay his debts at his convenience'. So Allah said to the angels; "Excuse him". Rabi said that (the dead man said), 'I used to be easy to the rich and grant time to the poor'. Or, in another narration, 'grant time to the well-off and forgive the needy,' or, 'accept from the well-off and forgive the needy'.

Be generous with your wealth; Grant time for payment from those who are poor or needy; Show kindness towards others; Be forgiving when someone cannot pay back what they owe you on time

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of being generous and forgiving to those who are in need. It tells us that we should be kind to people regardless of their social or economic status, as Allah will reward us for our good deeds. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that before his time, an angel asked a man if he had done any good deeds in his life, and he replied that he used to order his employees to grant time to the rich person so they could pay their debts at their convenience. Allah then told the angels to excuse him for this act of kindness. In another narration, it was mentioned that this man used to be easy on the rich and grant time for payment from those who were poor or needy. This shows us how important it is for us as Muslims to be generous with our wealth and forgive others when they are unable pay back what they owe us on time. We should also remember that Allah will reward us greatly if we show kindness towards others, especially those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
