Discouraging Gold Rings

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) wore a gold ring and the people followed suit, but he later threw it away and discouraged them from wearing it.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW put on a ring of gold and put its stone toward his palm. Then the people started to wear rings of gold. Then the Messenger of Allah SAW threw away his ring and said: 'I will never wear it again,' and the people threw away their rings".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow religious leaders/scholars for guidance before taking any action

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's discouragement of wearing gold rings. It was narrated by Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah put on a ring of gold and its stone toward his palm. Seeing this, many people started to wear rings of gold as well. However, the Prophet then threw away his ring and said that he would never wear it again, prompting others to throw away their rings too. This hadith teaches us that we should not follow blindly what others do without understanding why they are doing it in the first place; instead we should look for guidance from our religious leaders or scholars before taking any action. We should also be mindful of our actions as they can have an influence on those around us; if we do something wrong or inappropriate, others may follow suit without realizing its consequences or implications.
