Prohibitions of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) forbade Ali from wearing gold rings, Al-Qassi, reciting Qur'an while bowing and wearing garments dyed with safflower.

It was narrated from Ibn Hunain, the freed slave of 'Ali, that 'Ali said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW forbade me from four: Gold rings, wearing Al-Qassi, reciting Qur'an while I am bowing, and from wearing garments dyed with safflower".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be humble & modest in your actions & words so that you may please Allah SWT .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn Hunain states that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) prohibited Ali from four things; wearing gold rings, Al-Qassi, reciting Qur'an while bowing and wearing garments dyed with safflower. Gold rings were forbidden as they are a sign of vanity and pride in one's wealth. Wearing Al-Qassiyyah was also forbidden as it is a type of clothing worn by nonbelievers to show off their wealth and status. Reciting Qur'an while bowing was also prohibited as it is disrespectful to the holy book. Lastly, garments dyed with saffron were forbidden as they are associated with nonbelievers who wear them for showmanship rather than modesty or piety. This hadith teaches us that we should not be vain or prideful in our possessions or clothing but instead focus on being humble and modest in our actions and words so that we may please Allah SWT.
