Prohibitions on Tattoos, Hair Extensions & Plucking for Women

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) forbade women from getting tattoos, hair extensions, and plucking.

Aban bin Sam'ah narrated that his mother said: "I heard 'Aishah say: 'The Messenger of Allah SAW forbade the woman who does tattoos and the woman who has that done, the woman who affixes hair extensions and the woman who has that done, An-Namisah (the one who does the plucking) and Al-Mutanamisah (the one who has it done)'."
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ بْنُ صَمْعَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ، قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ، تَقُولُ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْوَاشِمَةِ وَالْمُسْتَوْشِمَةِ وَالْوَاصِلَةِ وَالْمُسْتَوْصِلَةِ وَالنَّامِصَةِ وَالْمُتَنَمِّصَةِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a prohibition given by Prophet Muhammad to women regarding certain beauty practices. He prohibited women from getting tattoos or having them done on their bodies; he also prohibited them from affixing hair extensions or having someone else do it for them; finally he prohibited them from plucking their eyebrows or having someone else do it for them. These prohibitions were given in order to protect Muslim women's modesty and dignity as well as to prevent any potential harm they may face due to these practices. The Prophet's teachings are a reminder of how important it is for us to take care of our bodies in a way that is pleasing to Allah SWT while also protecting our modesty and dignity as Muslims.
